Participants will be required to view a short 10-minute instructional and example video on what is focused on for this month’s specific coaching skillset. Participants will then practice that skillset at the 1.5 hour Cortex Coaching Clinic later that week.
Every participant attending the Coaching Clinic will be required to take a pre-quiz to ensure that learning transfer on the topic has been transferred so we know what to quickly review at the beginning of the clinic.
In the clinic you will be randomly assigned to another participant of the clinic for the purpose of practicing the coaching skill.
We will make every effort to accommodate any special requests for pairing.
The Key to Building the Leadership Skill of Coaching
The key to becoming a great coach to your team members is learning the skills necessary to properly coach and practicing those techniques and principles on others. In order to build your confidence in coaching, consulting, and mentoring skills, Cortex offers periodic coaching clinics wherein leaders are paired with professionals desiring to be coached. These pairings occur with instruction to the coachees and coaches in order to ensure the best match of leader to coachee. These clinics are 1.5 hours in length and occur at the Grandin CoLab. Check with your instructor or Cortex Coach, or Cortex Council Alumni Group representative for details.
Here’s what leaders are saying about the Cortex Coaching Clinics:
“Honestly just the practice of listening because I am so bad at listening and not trying to solve issues for someone. Doing this has helped me look at myself without feeling like I would mess it up with my own employees- who by the way would not judge me at all.” Jon M.
“Opportunity to coach real challenges, real people.” Josh G.
“It’s good to work with other individuals instead of just employees in our Company – it gets you out of your comfort zone.” Chris C.
“What benefited me the most is having the opportunity to practice the lessons learned from both a coaching and participant perspective.” Shane S.
“I find the coaching clinics refreshing as a coach. When trying to coach my own staff the day to day work that has to get done can get in the way; what should be a transformational conversation often becomes transactional. There are task lists, deadlines, projects to be done. By coaching others I’m able to focus just on the skills I need to develop as a coach and on the person in front of me.” -Nathan F.
“The Cortex Coaching Clinic is a great space for leaders to engage in powerful conversation with the aim to improve organizational focus. As a manager, I have learned how to better serve my team by refocusing/redirecting conversations into a positive direction.”
-Kevin S.
“Coaching, like any other skill, is developed through continual practice. Participating in the Cortex coaching clinics has provided me with the opportunity to gain experience in the practical application of the techniques I have learned in leadership courses. I recommend the clinics to all leaders seeking to enhance their coaching skills.”
-Simone K.
