She has conducted roughly 3,000 executive coaching sessions and trained/facilitated more than 10,000 corporate leaders in her career as a coach/consultant.
Lynda is a Certified Conversational Executive Coach, Certified Practitioner of TED* The Empowerment Dynamic, Certified Health Coach, School of Hilton Johnson, and graduated from Miami Dade College. Allen Foster, CPBA, CPDFA
Principal Executive Coach
The merger of McNutt & Associates, Inc. with Cortex Leadership Consulting, created an opportunity to expand the consulting work Allen Foster had been doing with clients for more than 15 years in the areas of marketing strategies, advertising, and public relations. As President of the boutique advertising agency, McNutt & Associates, Inc., Allen managed more than $5 million a year for clients like Rappaport Management Group who owns shopping centers like Towers Shopping Center, Central Park in Fairfax, VA, and more than 20 others, along with Virginia Furniture Market, Simpson Funeral Home, Altizer & Altizer Law Firm, Home Instead Senior Care and many others.
Allen spent the first 10 years of his career in retail management for giants (at that time … he’s old now) K-Mart and Staples, eventually rising to be one of the youngest store managers in the Staples chain. Allen was charged with multi-million renovation projects and new store openings as the operations management of stores ranging from $2M – $10M in annual sales.
As the President of Cortex, Allen serves clients through consulting sessions focused on marketing, advertising and optimizing onboarding success of new hires, along with co-facilitating select leadership workshops on DISC – he is a Certified Professional Behaviors Analyst (CPBA) and Certified Professional Driving Forces Analyst (CPDFA) through Target Training International – and the Currency of Trust. He remains an experienced and trusted media buyer for some Cortex clients.
Allen graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He is married to Lynda McNutt Foster (Cortex’s CEO) and father to Melody McNutt. He is a trivia wiz, a serious fan of Virginia Tech football, avid reader of books on history and science, and frequently can be found with Lynda walking or running on the Roanoke Greenway.
Matt Engle, CPBA, CPDFA
Talent Acquisition Specialist
Matt started his leadership journey in the military where he served as a Military Police Team Leader in the Army National Guard for six years. In addition to this role, Matt led several unit-wide training and development initiatives and engaged in military recruitment efforts.
For six years, Matt served his community as a law enforcement officer. He was a K9 handler and field trainer where he trained and evaluated officers transitioning from the academy into patrol functions. In addition to this, Matt participated in recruiting initiatives, conducted background investigations, interviewed candidates, and made recommendations for hiring.
Matt transitioned from law enforcement to full-time consulting. As an enrollment management consultant for a private college, Matt handled recruiting efforts and sourcing of candidates for programs within the college. He was able to generate over $50 million in leads during a short period of time.
Matt also spent two years working on major projects with a multisite church where he created and implemented a leadership development program. The program was designed to transform current and/or future leaders within the church to meet their greatest potential and inspire others all while contributing to organizational growth. Along with this program, Matt oversaw the leadership training for over 350 volunteers, recruited and onboarded new volunteers, and consulted with leaders across the organization.
Matt graduated Summa Cum Laude from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies concentrated in Business Administration and Government. He will hold a Master of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology as of August, 2019. In his graduate studies, Matt has focused his research on human capital, employee engagement, onboarding, socialization, and psychometrics. Matt is a member of the Tau Sigma Honor Society, Omega Nu Lambada Honor Society, StrategicIntelligence Society, Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP).
Scot Thomas, CPBA, CPDFA
Scot Thomas is certified in DISC and is leading the Cortex initiative in the New River Valley region while working with other consultants and coaches on the Cortex team to help organizations realize their leadership and team potential.
For 23 years Scot Thomas was the head softball coach at Virginia Tech. Scot was the chief architect for designing the program when it started in 1995 which pioneered more women’s sports at the University and fulfilled the school’s Title IX. He proudly led the Hokies softball program to 8 NCAA regional appearances, 8 conference tournament championship appearances and in 2008 to the Women’s College World Series. Under Scot’s leadership and coaching the Hokies would be considered a team of national prominence.
Scot was named the VA State Coach of the Year 6 times, NCAA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year 5 times and twice named Conference Coach of the Year in the Atlantic 10 and Atlantic Coast Conferences.
A veteran of the United States Naval Reserves, Scot has a passionate interest in community involvement working with the American Heart Association, Help Save the Next Girl, The Aware Foundation, hurricane and flood relief, and Hogs4Hokies. He has two kids, Andrew (21) and Liza (17), that are both musically inclined and often sing alongside their Dad who plays guitar and mandolin. He is an avid sports fan, loves to play golf, hunt, fish and is a proud Harley-Davidson enthusiast.
