You are not a letter. You are the alphabet.
by Lynda McNutt Foster
After 3,000 hours of coaching sessions and training or presenting to more than 10,000 people I have determine one thing. People are complicated.
You are not a number. You are not a letter. You are a complex set of experiences that has developed a belief system that drives your actions and gives you the results you are getting. You can not be boiled down to one letter or one number from an assessment or even a complex set of them. You are unique and it is that uniqueness that you can leverage to provide value at work and at home.
Behavioral assessments that we use like DISC, Motivators, or Cortex Team Strengths are a quick way, when you study them with patience and skill, to raise your awareness of what your potential might be. They can give you insight into which of your behaviors are serving you or those that aren’t. By reading other people’s assessments like DISC or Motivators or Cortex Team Strengths, you can open a window of deeper understanding into other people’s strengths that may not be immediately identifiable.
So, don’t call yourself or anyone else just one letter or place one number as your definitive marker. Start or continue your journey of self discovery and use assessments to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and others to help get to what you want in life and at work a little bit more quickly. You and your journey are, indeed, beautifully complicated.
